Born in 1954 this American visual artist is one of the greatest personalities of contemporary art of the second half of the 20th century. She works in photography but behind her work is a whole universe of makeup and theater where she is the protagonist of her portraits.
All of her projects are characterized by having a grotesque and mocking touch; here we have a few examples: “Untitled Film Stills” series where she embodies characters and scenes from movies; the “Centerfolds” series where she represents models from men’s magazines; “Society Portraits” where she personifies stereotypes from society; or “Clowns” where she creates a whole new world of clowns.
Cindy has also collaborated within the fashion world, creating campaigns for houses like Comme Des Garçons, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton or Marc Jacobs. She was also featured in some skate decks from Supreme and the most recent Undercover collection, which used graphics with her face printed in some of the garments, paying tribute to her.
