#GARMENTS The Martine Rose´s beer mat inspired garments

  • Martine Rose history story beer mat hoodie

Martine Rose is a London based designer whose self-titled label has become a cult favourite in menswear design since 2007. She is known for her unconventional approach to presenting collections, showing outside of the schedule in venues around north London such as packed markets, and also for having worked with Demna Gvasalia as a consultant for Balenciaga. Her desire is to create clothes which are so-wrong-they’re-right for the ‘dodgy man of her dreams’. “It should be a bit uncomfortable to look at. You should think, ‘Do I like this?”

This beer mat concept is highly influenced by the clubbing scene where she says she spent most of her youth. After seeing her siblings and cousins get prepared for going out she was fascinated by the power of the clothes.

We first see the graphic in FW2013 collection with notable beer names such as Heineken, Murphy’s or Carlsberg. But it wasn’t until 2018 that the graphic appears again, this time with Martine Rose branding instead of the beer names.

Luka Sabbat has been spotted wearing the beermat hoodie in the series he stars, ‘Grownish’.
